The King Charles Cavalier Spaniel is a small, affectionate breed that has won the hearts of dog lovers around the world. Known for their friendly disposition and charming appearance, Cavaliers make wonderful companions for families, singles,  and seniors alike.

THE HISTORY OF THE KING CHARLES CAVALIER 

The King Charles Cavalier has a rich history that dates back to the royal courts of Europe. Named after King Charles II of England, who adored these small spaniels, the breed was initially developed to be loyal lapdogs and companions. Over the centuries, they have maintained their noble heritage while becoming beloved pets in households everywhere.

Temperament // Personality

King Charles Cavaliers are renowned for their friendly and affectionate nature. They thrive on human companionship and are known to form a strong bond with their families. Cavaliers are gentle, eager to please, and highly adaptable, making them great with children and other pets. They enjoy being part of the family's daily activities and are equally content snuggling on the couch or playing in the yard. 

Exercise Requirements

Although Cavaliers are small, they have moderate exercise needs. Daily walks and playtime are essential to keep them happy and healthy. They enjoy various activities, including fetch, agility, and even simple games in the backyard. Despite their playful nature, they also appreciate downtime and are more than happy to relax with their owners. 

Color // Coat Types

Cavaliers are known for their elegant and graceful appearance. They typically weigh between 13 to 18 pounds and stand about 12 to 13 inches tall at the shoulder. Their silky, medium-length coat can come in four distinct color patterns: Blenheim (chestnut and white), Tricolor (black, white, and tan), Black and Tan, and Ruby (solid red). With large, dark eyes and a sweet, gentle expression, Cavaliers are truly captivating.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels thrive in a loving and nurturing environment where they can be close to their human companions. They are highly adaptable and do well in a variety of living situations, whether in an apartment or a house with a yard. Cavaliers enjoy being part of the family's daily activities and are happiest when they receive plenty of attention and affection. They make excellent pets for families with children, singles, and seniors due to their gentle and friendly nature.

GROOMING REQUIREMENTS

Cavaliers have a beautiful, silky coat that requires regular grooming to keep it looking its best. Weekly brushing helps prevent tangles and mats, and keeps their coat clean and healthy. Regular baths, nail trimming, and ear cleaning are also important parts of their grooming routine. Attention to dental care, such as regular brushing of their teeth, is essential for maintaining their overall health. Professional grooming every few months can also help keep their coat in top condition.

TRAINABILITY

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are intelligent and eager to please, making them relatively easy to train. They respond well to positive reinforcement techniques such as praise, treats, and play. Early socialization and basic obedience training are important for developing good behavior and manners. Cavaliers are known for their affectionate nature, so they thrive on interaction and engagement with their owners. With patience and consistency, they can learn a variety of commands and tricks, making them delightful companions.
